This afternoon, Captain Ian left Victoria Harbour on our zodiac, StrongTide. Accompanying him were some very excited guests from Spain! We started the new year with clear skies on our first tour of 2019!

Ian began his search out west to look for wildlife near where he heard reports of Killer Whales earlier that day. After about 50 minutes of travel in flat calm conditions, Ian spotted a family from J-Pod. J-Pod members are part of the Southern Resident clan. Just south of Sheringham Point Lighthouse, Ian found 3-4 animals foraging and hunting for salmon. He predicted that the other 18-19 family members were travelling behind farther west. Ian started his search like a needle in a haystack, finding them meant being the only boat on the water with them. What a special moment! Well done Captain Ian on your find!

What was already a great “private” tour with J-Pod, was topped by seeing our usual friends at Race Rocks, including Sea Lions, Harbour Seals, Bald Eagles and more. You can see Ian’s photos from the trip by clicking here to go to our Facebook album for that day!
