Thanks to the unique patterns on the undersides of their tails, we are able to identify the two humpback whales we saw today as Windsock (BCX1641) and Taurus (BCY1080). Better yet, the same identification system has tracked these whales to Hawaii and Mexico respectively on their migrations, so it’s great to see them reunited and feeding in the Salish sea. Windsock is also known to be the 2014 calf of another local whale, Divot, making them the grandchild of Big Momma, a Victoria legend!
