SEPTEMBER 14 2017 – Orcas are the top predator of the sea, in the area we can see two eco-types. They are transient orcas and resident orcas. The difference between them is mainly in the diet. Transient orcas are marine mammal hunters and residents hunt fish (salmon). The family of orcas we saw today, were transient and in the afternoon we got to see them playing around after making a kill (most likely a harbor seal). It was a family of 5-6 orcas, with a few juveniles in the group. Have a look at the underwater photo when they swam under our boat in the morning!
