APRIL 24, 2016 – It was a Transient Killer Whale day! Today’ s 2pm tours consisted of two Zodiac boats – StrongTide and FasTide, one manned by Captain Ian and the other Captain Kenton, and Marauder IV Cruise was operated by Captain Bill and Biologists Gord and Laureline. The tours were able to catch up with several pods of Transient Orcas at different locations but spent most of the time at Pender Island Bluffs near Thieves Bay, just north-north east of Sidney. The whale behavior and activity seen during the encounters were feeding and hunting that was very exciting for our passengers to watch! At one point along the way a few members of a small pod swam directly under Marauder IV and returned to the surface quick enough to get some great photos. The crew also observed bald eagles throughout the tour but, decided near the end, to remain with the same pod for about an hour before heading back to the harbour. The water swells just outside Victoria’s Inner Harbour were as high as 3-4 feet – making for a fun ride back in to Victoria, and it was a fantastic day to be out on the water! The crew had calm waters and sun during the Transient Whale encounters and guests were ecstatic to experience these amazing animals for the first time in their lives. Memories that will last them a lifetime!
