JANUARY 6, 2018 – Blue sky poked through the clouds as we went out on our Zodiac, StrongTide, with Skipper Mark. We hugged the coastline all the way out to East Sooke Park, where we admired eagles soaring over their nest. On the way to Race Rocks, Mark noticed a black fin in the water..it was Chainsaw (T63)! A male transient killer whale with very jagged fin resembling a chainsaw. Transient killer whales are the mammal eating killer whales. After a great viewing of Chainsaw, we continued on to Race Rocks. We saw Steller and California sea lions and harbour seals hauled out on the rocks. Great afternoon on the water!
