We had an amazing morning watching two families of Bigg’s killer whales feeding on harbour porpoise. T117B Nyx and her calf, T117B1 Noctis, were travelling with their usual companions – Nyx’s older brother, T117A Nighthawk, and their associate, T172 Katmai. Joining them was a less frequently encountered group, the T049Bs. T049B Van, sister to the well-known matriarch T049A Nan, led her family alongside them – it was fascinating to observe the differences in habitat use between the two sisters.
