September 15, 2016 – This morning the Marauder IV left Victoria’s Inner Harbour under a beautiful warm sun for the Salish Sea. We headed west in search of whales. We arrived at Race Rocks and had a look at the gorgeous lighthouse and of course at the hundreds of Steller and California sea lions that use the rocks as a winter haul out. It was very noisy and smelly there but it was so much fun to observe those playful animals! We also observed dozens of harbour seals and found Harry our favourite sea otter. We then only had to drive for a few minutes and found three humpback whales. They were young adults coming to the surface to breathe then diving to find their food. After about 30 min spent with them, it was time to make our way back home.
