Stunning conditions and time spent with T49C Neilson as he travelled south west across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Afterwards, we briefly saw Aerie the humpback whale, then we found two whales together, Hemlock and Scuttle! Hemlock is a female and Scuttle is a male. In the fall, breeding season is soon and those behaviours can start at the feeding grounds! We heard Hemlock trumpeting as she continuously fluked. Every time, Scuttle was right behind her, surfacing more out of the water than normal. Another whale, Freyr, joined them for a second. It seemed like Hemlock just wanted to eat!
