JUNE 9 2017 – We started the day with orcas on the morning tours! It was a big group of Bigg’s transients killer whales. Around 10 individuals were in the area, travelling a bit spread out with one group of two females and a few juveniles, 2-3 males by themselves and at least 2 more females. We could easily identify the big male T170, a rare sight in these waters and this individual have only been seen a few times around Vancouver Island. In the afternoon we headed west since the orcas from the morning left the area right away. We could spend a long time with a humpback whale and also see sea lions, harbor seal and even elephant seals at Race Rock!
