MAY 21 2018 – Today, we got to spend some time with one of our favorite Transient Orca families, the T 123’s. This family consists of Stanley (T123A), a massive teenage bull born in 2000, who always wows us with his shear size and cheeky personality. You can get an idea of his size by how the edges of his flukes are curled in, seen in the picture below. Fully mature male Orcas can have dorsal fins reaching 2 meters tall, can have a body size reaching up to 9 meters long and can be a whopping 8 to 12,000 lbs! In our time with this family, we got to see some tail lobs and beautiful synchronized surfacing!!! On the way home we also stopped by to say hi to some Harbour Seals who were soaking up the sun on some haul outs. Couldn’t have asked for a better day!
