One of our Southern Resident Killer Whales breaching!
One of our Southern Resident Killer Whales breaching!

APRIL 17, 2016 – Today was a very exciting day! It was the Marauder IVs, our 84 passenger, 61′ motor yacht, first day out on the water for the year! The conditions could not have been more perfect. The sun was shining, the sky was clear and the water was a delightful blue.

Captain Bill took all the excited passengers on board the Marauder IV East towards Kelp Reef in the search of Orca that we had heard were in the area. They hit the jackpot and encountered J-Pod, our Southern Resident Killer Whale Pod. The Orca were quite spread out but were giving everybody plenty of views of their dorsal fins, the little calf they had with them, and coming to the surface regularly.  One of them even breached, twice! Everybody on-board had a great time, also getting to see Steller Sea Lions and cute little Harbour Seals. What a fantastic first trip!

We also had a morning trip on one of our Zodiacs. Captain Ian took his passengers out to sea where they encountered Transient Killer Whales, Bald Eagles and Sea Lions. It really was such a fantastic and successful day for everybody!
