THE NATURAL WORLD OF SOUTHERN VANCOUVER ISLAND THROUGH THE LENS OF CAPTAIN YVES- PART 22

Males and females of this species look different. Pictured above is a female with her chocolaty brown plumage. The males are a beautifully delicate mix of black and white.

Tight groups of Lesser Scaups congregate on large lakes, reservoirs and estuaries during migration and winter.

This species east aquatic invertebrates such as mollusks, insects and crustaceans. They will also munch on aquatic plants and seeds.

To get at their food these ducks will dive below the surface .
