Beautiful Transients in the Sun

August 27, 2016 – In the morning the sun was shining but it was quite windy when we left the harbour heading south. We sailed for a while, it was a bit bumpy but we had so much fun. And then it just appeared from nowhere: a humpback whale came out just behind the boat. We stayed with it for a few minutes, watching it diving twice and coming to the surface. Then we continued sailing a few minutes further west where we found two transient killer whales. We recognized the family T11: a mum and her very big son. They were hunting for food, certainly seals or porpoises as those orcas are marine mammal eaters. Then it was time to head back to Victoria.
