East out of the harbour we went with a report of Bigg’s (Transient) Killer Whales in the vicinity of San Juan County Park on San Juan Island. The question was: would we catch up with them before they headed north too far out of our range?

We were in luck. They had changed their previous direction of travel from North to South and we caught up with them around Darcy Island. It was the T49As, displaying long, deep dives lasting approximately 5 minutes a-go.

They were not quite porpoising but something was definitely on their mind. A perfect photo opportunity arose when a Bald Eagle flew over the surfacing Killer Whales. The meeting of two top predators was another demonstration of the variety of impressive animals this region has to offer.
