THE NATURAL WORLD OF SOUTHERN VANCOUVER ISLAND THROUGH THE LENS OF CAPTAIN YVES – PART 10

The golden -crowned sparrow is one of the least known of our songbirds.
It is here in the winter and goes north to Alaska during the breeding season.
It feeds on seeds and insects on the ground.
The oldest known golden-crowned sparrow was caught in California and was 10 years 6 months old.

They used be called the “no gold here” bird by miners during the gold rush. Their depressing song would reflect the sad feelings of a fruitless days work.
