September 25, 2016 – This afternoon we left Victoria’s Inner Harbour and headed east towards San Juan Island as this area is a common feeding ground for our southern resident killer whales. After about a 45 minute drive we spotted a first little group of Orcas: A big male and two females. The big male decided to say hi and swam towards us, and kept swimming right next to the boat for a few minutes. What an incredible sight, this gorgeous and impressive animal curious to check us out! It was a great chance to get the perfect shot. After a little while, we saw another family of five and spent some time with them as they were looking for food. Resident killer whales are big fans of Chinook salmon and this is probably what they were hunting. It was then time to return home to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
