A Humpback Tail Fluke
A Humpback Tail Fluke

Captain Ian departed at 11am with 10 very excited guests on StrongTide, one of our High Speed Zodiacs. By 11.25am they were watching a single Humpback Whale just south of Victoria. Check out how big it’s tail fluke is in the picture above that Ian took today. Whilst our guests watched this huge animal, Ian spotted 2 more Humpbacks to the south of him. He soon realised, that just like the previous days, he and his passengers were surrounded! They watched as each animal blew and then tail fluked as they headed down for their longer dives. They were feeding. The food around here at this time of year is plentiful and that’s why we see so many of these Humpbacks. As Ian moved towards another Humpback in the distance, SPLASH! One just breached and the passengers were ecstatic! To see a 30 ton animal lunge out of the water and into the air is a sight they will never forget.

Other highlights of today’s tour included the usual critters at Race Rocks and some huge Steller Sea Lions gulping down whole salmon at the surface of the water.
