SpringTide Whale Watching & Eco Tours is hiring for the 2026 season.
Responsibilities of the job:
- Educate guests about local whales and diverse marine wildlife of the Salish Sea.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers throught the tour.
- Safely and efficiently handle vessel lines during docking and departure.
- Preform daily deckhand/crew duties and communicating directly with the captain.
- Prepare and clean vessels before and after each tour.
- Maintain a high level of customer service at all times.
- Deliver engaging marine mammal presentations using visual aids.
- Manage large groups with confidence, efficency and professionalism.
- Assist with guest check-ins as needed.
- Greet and coordinate with Tour Directors and their groups prior to departure.
- Keep guests excited, informed and engaged from start to finish.
Skills and Qualifications
- Marine First Aid certificate (or plan to obtain it).
- Marine Emergency Duties – DVS (Domestic Vessel Safety) (or plan to obtain it).
- Strong understanding of vessel operations and safe line-handling practises.
- Extensive knowledge of west coast marine mammals and local birdlife.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Confidence in managing and guiding large groups.
- A passion for wildlife, conservation and sharing knowledge in an engaging, enjoyable way.
- Familiarity with Victoria and the surrounding region.
- A University degree in Marine Sciences – especially with focus on whales – is a strong asset.
- Wildlife photography skills are an added bonus.
- Multilingual abilities are preffered.
Requirements:
- Must be available to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Must be available throughout the July – September peak season.
